Fish and Wildlife TWS Student Chapter 2014-2015 Events
2014-2015 AGM and Quizbowl
Our annual general meeting took place March 27th where we recapped the previous year. It was a busy one with numerous events and trips occurring. We thank everyone for participating and helping organize each, and strongly encourage those students with a desire to becoming involved in a larger capacity to contact us at tws@unbc.ca. Elections for next year’s executive concluded our AGM, where we have a full slate of returning board members as well as the welcomed addition of Trent Brunelle.
Following our AGM was our annual quizbowl! This year’s competition involved six teams and a double-knockout format which produced an intense final matchup. The winning team, consisting of Linda Horianopoulos, Jasmine Eadie, Kristin Denryter, and Trent Brunelle, required two final-matchup victories in pulling out a thrilling come from behind championship win. Congratulations to them and all others who participated!
2015 Sixth Annual Ice Fishing Derby
The Student Chapter’s sixth annual ice fishing derby was held on Saturday, March 7th at West Lake Provincial Park. It was a balming day, and we thank all our sponsors and the 32 participants that came out to take advantage of the great conditions and non stop peamouth chub action! We would also like to thank the peamouth, which are now able to contribute to our education in the UNBC BIOL 315 Disease and Parasite course. Becuase of the great turn out we are able to donate $150 to the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative.

2014 Student Chapter Meet and Greet
On Thursday, September 18th we held our annual fall meet and greet which introduced members to all the events and trips we anticipate for the coming school year. This was followed by presentations introducing students to a variety of graduate research that is currently being conducted at UNBC, hoping to expose undergraduate members to this aspect of the university. Thanks to everyone who came out and we hope you’re able to join us in our future events!
Fall 2014 Mugaha Marsh Bird Banding Station Trip
On Saturday, September 6th 17 Student Chapter members travelled to Mugaha Marsh Bird Banding Station to stay the night and participate in mist netting and banding. One saw-whet owl was collected in the evening followed by an early morning where approximately 40 birds we caught in the mist nets. Thank you Vi Lambie and all those working at the station for the help and for once again allowing us this great opportunity!
