Grad Talk Night
November 15
Three awesome graduate students spoke about their research and their journeys to grad school during a fun social evening at Deadfall Brewing. Our members got to learn about science happening around us, network with UNBC grad students, and enjoy some pizza! We had a great evening. If you didn’t make it to this event, keep an eye out for the grad talk night next semester.
Kennedy Siding Caribou Trip
November 5 and 11
After this trip being cancelled due to COVID and weather conditions the last few years, we were thrilled to put together not one but TWO trips to see the Kennedy Siding Caribou herd! Our members got some rare up-close sightings of wild caribou and learned about the research program being conducted on this herd. Thank you to Lauren Elviss and Dr. Doug Heard for their continued support of this experience!
Wildlife Photography Workshop
October 14
The talented Dr. Roy Rea brought a group of our members out to Cottonwood Island Park to share his tips and tricks for wildlife photography. What a perfect lead-in to our upcoming wildlife photo contest!
Wildlife Trivia
October 10
We packed Deadfall Brewing on a Tuesday evening to engage in some friendly competition. Thanks to Brett Gandy for leading an awesome game of wildlife-related trivia! Groups killed it with their knowledge of random wildlife facts and animal-related music.
Meet and Greet
September 26
We had a fantastic turnout for the Meet and Greet – upwards of 50 members attended! We ate pizza, talked about upcoming events, and played some wildlife-related games. Can’t wait for a fun year!
Bird Banding
September 9-10 & 16-17
A huge thank you to the Mackenzie Nature Observatory for once again welcoming our members to their Mugaha Marsh Bird Banding Station! We had groups go out two weekends to learn all about bird banding. They observed the capture and banding of songbirds during the day and saw-whet owls at night. What an awesome experience!
